Why this? Why now?

2018 marks the centenary of British women being granted the right to vote. We’ve made some great progress over the last 100 years. Whilst it is widely recognised that women across the world still have varying access to opportunities, we rarely notice these differences when they’re closer to home. Within our Grocery Industry there are some of those discrepancies with only 8% of Senior Leadership positions being held by women despite women driving 85% of consumer purchasing decisions within the UK.

We know that having more women in the boardroom drives success. Research shows that companies with gender-balanced teams have higher ROI than those that don’t. Higher representation brings diversity of thought, action and drives discussions further to achieve higher commercial returns. Ultimately, if women make up a significant proportion of your businesses customer base, it’s of great value to represent them within your leadership team?

We see real value in encouraging change within our industry and Grocery Girls is our way of supporting women to achieve their career aspirations. Our network gives talented women the opportunity to come together, share experiences and develop the necessary skills to advance their careers. We know that bringing women together can only bring positive outcomes and ultimately grow all of our businesses.

We’d love for you to come and get involved.

Our Research

We know that there’s more that we can do in our industry to encourage female development and progression but we need everyone to come together to help us build the bigger picture and see what’s happening. We want everyone across the grocery industry to give us their opinion; what you’ve seen, heard, experienced, learnt and the challenges you’ve already made to the status quo. We will use all of this insight to point us in the right direction and give us the key areas we should focus on and tell us where we can make the biggest difference.

Our research is ongoing. If you'd like to contribute please fill out our survey and help us build a broader understanding.

Why Grocery Girls?

You may be wondering why we’ve called ourselves the “Grocery Girls”. Many of us have been called “girls” at some point in our careers,  sometimes unintentionally, but implying a lack of maturity, experience or significance.
So we're reclaiming the word girl!
So we’re all “girls”, all equal in our ambitions to learn, develop and grow together.
Girls are strong, talented and ambitious, As girls we are all equal in our ambitions to learn, develop and grow together.
We are empowered for success and will use our talents and achieve great things as we come together.
